The Montessori Approach ![]() Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the most important period of life is from birth to age six, as children of this age possess an Absorbent Mind. The term Absorbent Mind refers to the capacity of children to unconsciously and effortlessly absorb all elements, without prejudice, of their environment in order to construct their personality and intelligence. Maria Montessori believed that education ought to represent more than just the transmission of knowledge. Rather, she offered a vision of education as an aid to life; in order to promote the total development of the individual child. The Montessori approach responds directly to the natural development of the child by providing a flexible framework within which the children can pursue their innate passion for learning and working. |
